One forever hopes for a white Christmas in Darjeeling and though I am not sure whether our hills have ever sparkled with the supple snowflakes during the holiday season but right now as I write, I cannot help but rejoice in the fact that I could not have asked for a better day to usher this festive season in.
All our early morning Christmas festivities are over; the prayers, the candle lighting, the emptying of Zy’s stocking over the mantelpiece, Christmas cake and Christmas breakfast with the family….whew! After all, we did manage to keep with the tradition. Now as I rest in front of my computer writing to send Christmas cheer to all you wonderful people, I look outside my window and the sun shines gloriously on my face. I blossom. I wanted this Christmas for Darjeeling and for all of us here.
Having lived the last two months in the bleakness and austerity of winter, the resplendent mountains in full view pacify my insecurities into a hopeful heart that prays for a sunny and splendid future for the hill people. The blue skies above reassures me once again of peace and harmony in our region. The warmth of the sun on my son’s bare face makes me want to laugh out in joy. Encouraged with the conviction and the faith that, there will be a second chance for us…there will be peace, prosperity and progress…there will be love…there will be sunshine…and Christmas will rest in our hearts not just for today but forever.
Merry Christmas Everyone
